Deputy Registrar targets more than 700 companies for deregistration

The Deputy Registrar of Companies plans to strike off more than 700 companies from the official register, according to a gazette notice dated June 12.

The notice states that 424 companies are listed for immediate dissolution while another 277 have three months to show cause why they should not be struck off.

Affected sectors include construction, real estate, agriculture, trading and transport. Many of the firms have generic names and may be dormant shell companies.

The move follows the dissolution of 501 companies in a May 29 gazette notice and comes as youth unemployment stands at around 17 per cent according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
