East Java has the most cars in Indonesia

Latest data from Korlantas Polri as of 20 May 2026 shows East Java leading with more than 6.5 million four-wheeled vehicles and buses.

Indonesia’s car population has reached 28,149,254 units. This total includes 21,264,759 passenger cars, 6,571,432 goods vehicles and 313,063 buses.

The national vehicle fleet now stands at 176,301,749 units. East Java tops the list with 5,638,690 passenger cars, 825,369 goods vehicles and 48,911 buses.

Polda Metro Jaya ranks second with more than five million units. Central Java comes third with over 2.5 million four-wheeled vehicles.

The growth reflects rising transport needs and economic activity across regions.
