The family of 12-year-old Alejandro Águila announced on Saturday that they will push for legal changes after his killing in a carjacking in San Bernardo.
Relatives of the boy held a press conference at Estadio Monumental. There the child's father called for maximum penalties and proposed the Ley Alejandro.
The bill seeks to ensure that those involved in carjackings or other violent group crimes serve effective sentences without benefits, regardless of age. The family also asked to review the Ley de Responsabilidad Penal Adolescente and requested a provisional pension for victims.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, in the Catemito area. So far five people have been detained, including two 17-year-olds and two adults.
