FIFA to examine 64-team World Cup for 2030 after 2026 tournament

The proposal for a 64-team World Cup was first raised by Ignacio Alonso in March 2025, followed by discussions in September and November that year. Opponents include Aleksander Čeferin of UEFA and Victor Montagliani of CONCACAF.

The 2030 World Cup will be held in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
