Lena Huovinen, who worked at the National Defence Radio Establishment for 28 years, criticizes the Security Police after the preliminary investigation against her was dropped on 1 July 2026.
Lena Huovinen was arrested together with her husband Johan Huovinen in October 2023 by the national task force. She was suspected of gross unauthorized handling of secret information and gross data intrusion. The couple was detained but released without charges in December that year. The investigation against her husband was dropped in 2024.
On 1 July 2026 the preliminary investigation against Lena Huovinen was also dropped because crimes could not be proven. She directs sharp criticism at Säpo and says the agency tried to construct a crime after the original suspicions did not hold.
– This has been wrong from the beginning, says husband Johan Huovinen. Lena Huovinen states that she is not bitter but sometimes angry about how she was treated. She has trained as a journalist and hopes to use her knowledge of Russia and Ukraine in the media industry.
