Readmissions of irregular Algerian nationals have quietly resumed between Paris and Algiers after months of blockage. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez's recent visit is credited with this thaw. Algeria, however, maintains pressure by opening several diplomatic fronts.
French and Algerian authorities have restarted readmissions of Algerians under orders to leave French territory (OQTF), quietly and without fanfare, after months of halt.
In Paris, bilateral sources express relief. "The figures are not spectacular," but "the machine has restarted and that's the essential," officials note behind the scenes. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez's visit, during which he met Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, "bore its fruits," restoring dialogue through official channels.
Algiers reacted sharply. On Sunday evening, the official APS news agency criticized French national anti-terror prosecutor Olivier Christen. He had stated on April 3 on Franceinfo that his office opened eight proceedings for "state terrorism," targeting among others Iran and Russia.
This resumption occurs amid ongoing tensions, with Algiers upholding a balance of power by opening multiple fronts in recent days.
