Renaissance candidate Gabriel Attal detailed his budget proposals on Thursday for a potential term, aiming to balance public finances within ten years.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Gabriel Attal outlined a plan including 100,000 post cuts through voluntary departures and non-replacement of some retirements. He specified that the ministries of Education, Armed Forces, Justice and Interior would be preserved.
Attal proposed a "blank year" on social benefits for his first 2028 budget, while sparing small pensions. He targeted two-thirds of savings in social spending, without tax increases, to achieve between 120 and 150 billion euros in savings.
The candidate also advocated for "zero budget impunity," with mandatory resignations for ministers and central administration directors in case of unjustified overruns. He distinguished his proposals from austerity, stating he aims for rigor and seriousness.
