Google has renamed its NotebookLM tool to Gemini Notebook as part of deeper integration with its Gemini AI suite. The change was announced Thursday alongside new features for code execution and data analysis.
The rebranding aligns the research assistant with other Gemini products while keeping it a standalone tool. Originally launched as Project Tailwind in 2023, the service now serves over 30 million users and 600,000 organizations.
Updates rolled out last month provide each notebook with a secure cloud computer for native code writing and execution. New output formats include .JSON and Microsoft PowerPoint files.
Access to the features started Thursday for Google AI Ultra users and certain Workspace customers. AI Pro users will gain access in the coming weeks.
Notebooks already sync with Google Drive and can be created from the Gemini app. Google plans to add them to AI Mode in Search soon.
