Greater Chennai Corporation to expedite biomining in dump yards

The Greater Chennai Corporation plans to speed up biomining work at dump yards following an inspection by state officials on Saturday.

Municipal Administration and Water Supply Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi inspected the Kodungaiyur and Perungudi sites. He directed officials to address delays in package 5 and issue a show cause notice to the contractor.

Commissioner G.S. Sameeran said the corporation has completed 60 percent of the biomining work. He noted that two fire tenders have been stationed at the dumpsites after recent complaints.

Bedi also reviewed a reclaimed green zone with 881 trees on three acres in Kodungaiyur. Instructions were given to maintain the trees and begin planting saplings on cleared land. Preliminary work on a waste-to-energy plant has started with test piling.
