Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has strongly criticised the FIA for reinstating Pierre Gasly's third place in the Monaco Grand Prix after an Alpine appeal.
Steiner described the ruling as a "debacle" during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast. He argued that the decision to overturn Gasly's pitlane speeding penalty created inconsistencies because other drivers had already served similar penalties during the race.
The original penalty had dropped Gasly from third to seventh in the final classification. Alpine successfully used new evidence in a right of review request to have the result changed back.
Steiner noted that the underlying issue began with an error in the speeding line or information provided to teams. He said reinstating the podium was the wrong outcome because penalties already served could not be undone under the rules.
"The whole thing was a debacle in my opinion," Steiner concluded.
