Heavy snowfall on Saturday evening paralyzed bus services in Lübeck and southern Schleswig-Holstein. Stadtwerke Lübeck mobil suspended all lines shortly after 9 p.m. and directed vehicles to the depot. Police reported about 35 slip accidents without serious injuries.
The winter onset hit Schleswig-Holstein hard on Saturday. From 5 p.m., snow intensified in Lübeck and surroundings, leading to difficult road conditions. Police in the Hanseatic city recorded about 35 slip accidents, "all fortunately without major injuries," as the control center stated.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Stadtwerke Lübeck mobil had to suspend bus services. All vehicles were ordered to the depot in Ratekauer Weg. At 9:46 p.m., the company's website stated: "Dear passengers: Due to the current weather situation, bus operations SWL-Mobil, LVG, and LÜMO have been suspended until further notice." This affected all Lübeck bus routes. It remained unclear around 10 p.m. whether services would resume overnight due to ongoing poor conditions.
Similar issues occurred in Kiel, where KVG temporarily halted bus services. There, snowfall in the afternoon caused a series of slip accidents. In Geesthacht, the fire department responded more than 50 times, and the B5 was closed until Sunday due to life-threatening snow breakage risks. The German Weather Service warned of persistent ice and snow in the region.
