The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission arrested former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji on 1 July 2026 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The ICPC said it is investigating allegations that Nnaji submitted a forged degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a false National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate during his ministerial screening in 2023.
The Commission first invited Nnaji for questioning through a letter dated 15 May 2026. After he failed to appear, the Federal High Court granted a bench warrant on 11 June 2026 in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026.
Nnaji was arrested with assistance from the Department of State Services and remains in custody at ICPC headquarters in Abuja. The Commission stated that the allegations have not been determined by any court and that Nnaji is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
