Key figures at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival discussed strategies for emerging filmmakers during a panel on the Future Frames program.
Industry leaders gathered at the 60th anniversary edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for a Variety-hosted panel in collaboration with Allwyn. They emphasized the need for directors to be brave, curious, fearless and pushy to succeed.
Irina Ignatiew-Lemke of European Film Promotion highlighted fostering diverse European voices through the program. Allwyn’s Tatiana Jouanneau stressed that access to mentors and industry connections matters more than financial support alone.
Kryštof Mucha of the festival noted its role in creating safe spaces and opportunities for filmmakers. Talent agent Ugo Obioha added that making a strong impression in meetings is essential after gaining access.
Danish director Amalie Marie Nelson, a 2023 scholarship recipient, described the Los Angeles program as providing open doors for collaboration.
