Jack White made his sixth appearance as musical guest on Saturday Night Live, performing two new songs during the episode hosted by Jack Black. The pair teamed up for a surprise rendition of 'Seven Nation Army' in Black's monologue. The show aired on April 4, marking Black's fifth time hosting.
Jack Black hosted Saturday Night Live on April 4, joined by Five-Timers Club members Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Candice Bergen, and Melissa McCarthy during his opening monologue. Jack White burst onto the scene, knocking cast member Marcello Hernandez's character over the head with a frying pan, before the duo led a choir-backed performance of the White Stripes' 2003 hit 'Seven Nation Army.' The rendition featured altered lyrics referencing the Five-Timers Club and the episode, preserving the song's iconic guitar riff. White, 50, from Detroit, first appeared on SNL in 2002 with the White Stripes; his previous solo visits were in 2012, 2018, October 2020, and February 2023. His most recent album, No Name, came out in 2024. These marked his first new tracks since then: 'Derecho Demonico' on a blue-lit stage with wooden crates and a statue featuring a glass skeleton head, followed by 'G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs' while wearing a NASA-logo jacket. In the latter, White sang lines evoking a post-apocalyptic Garden of Eden, such as 'Well, it’s the beginning of the world now/ And there’s nobody left… Let’s start again… Let’s do it all over again' and 'Welcome to the end of the world/ Nobody left but one boy and one girl and one other.' Black is promoting his role voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, released April 1.
