Japan and Vietnam agree to deepen strategic partnership

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met in Kuala Lumpur to agree on promoting exchanges at various levels to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership. Chinh called for Japanese cooperation in science, technology, semiconductors, and energy. Takaichi expressed Japan's readiness to elevate the partnership further.

On Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with her Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh, on the sidelines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gatherings. According to the Vietnamese government, Chinh congratulated Takaichi on her election as prime minister last week.

Chinh called for Japanese cooperation in areas such as science and technology, advanced human resources development, digital transformation, semiconductors, and energy. He also expressed hope for active people-to-people exchanges between the two nations and invited Takaichi to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

Takaichi responded by stating Japan's readiness to enhance the partnership with Vietnam to a higher level. This agreement lays the foundation for deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership through exchanges at various levels. The meeting highlights concrete efforts to strengthen Japan-Vietnam relations, with expectations for expanded technology transfers and people-to-people interactions.

Vietnam emphasized that cooperation with Japan is essential for its development. For Japan, the talks align with its focus on economic and security ties in Southeast Asia.
