KNEC announces new requirements for KCSE 2027 candidates

The Kenya National Examinations Council has announced that students without KCPE certificates must verify their qualifications and sit a special exam before registering for the 2027 KCSE.

KNEC said all students intending to sit the 2027 KCSE without a KCPE certificate must first submit proof of primary school education for verification.

The qualifying exam will take place in September 2026, with registration closing on July 30, 2026. Verification fees are Sh3,480 and exam fees are Sh3,000.

KNEC chief executive Dr David Njengere said the 2027 KCSE will be the last under the 8-4-4 system before the full shift to the CBE system in 2028.

Students will need to submit an application letter, school reports and other required documents.
