Hit television series filming in Los Angeles, including Euphoria and Nobody Wants This, are dressing characters in outfits from local stores and designers. This approach supports the city's fashion scene and takes advantage of California tax incentives for local spending. Costume designers report significant boosts to small businesses through on-screen placements.
Several popular TV shows are showcasing Los Angeles fashion by sourcing wardrobe from local brands and stores. Euphoria's third season, premiering April 12 on HBO Max, features contemporary and vintage pieces from places like Replika, Aralda, Scout, Wasteland, and Goodwill. Natasha Newman-Thomas, the show's costume designer, noted that Euphoria received a $19.4 million credit from the California Film Commission, highlighting the financial support for local designers and retailers such as Saks and Neiman Marcus. She described Rue, played by Zendaya, adopting a 'Hunter S. Thompson' phase with Hawaiian shirts, while Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, wears items like a vintage Yves Saint Laurent bodysuit and a skirt from brand Unnamed. Newman-Thomas added, 'LA is so expansive and has so many facets to explore.'
