Logistics sector workforce training intensifies in Ethiopia

This program aims to improve service delivery and support economic growth. Backed by the World Bank, it particularly empowers young women through skill development.

In Addis Ababa on Tahsas 8, 2018 (EFMC), Minister of Transport and Logistics Dr. Alemu Seme announced that workforce development training in the logistics sector is intensifying. Graduates from all regions and city administrations, particularly young women, have established a graduation committee upon completing their programs.

The minister highlighted that the logistics sector, akin to a cost-and-revenue enterprise, significantly contributes to economic growth. Efforts are underway to deliver efficient, reliable, and modern services in the field. Special focus is on training competent professionals to provide high-quality services.

He emphasized the need to advance sector integration with digital technology to ensure competitiveness and security. Graduates were urged to implement their knowledge in workplaces to serve the public effectively.

Fraol Tafa, Chief Director of the Ethiopian Maritime Authority, noted that this initiative will greatly benefit the sector's expansion. It enhances service competitiveness, generates job opportunities, and boosts women's involvement. The trainees, supported by the World Bank, include Desalegn Getahun (Eng.), coordinator for the green logistics center in Mojo. Discussions with sector companies are creating employment prospects.
