The Madrid regional government bought an almost 500-square-meter attic in Chamberí three months ago through the public company Planifica Madrid. The property will serve for institutional meetings during renovations at the Real Casa de Correos. Municipal rules prohibit office use in that residential area.
Isabel Díaz Ayuso said in a press conference that the attic, located on Paseo del General Martínez Campos, will serve for “reuniones profesionales” on a provisional basis. The regional president denied any personal use and stated that “it is not my house, it is not for me”. She added that the purchase responds to the full renovation of the second floor at the Presidency headquarters, due to start in the coming months.
Madrid City Council rules under Norma Zonal 1 Grado 3º allow only residential use in the building. Opposition sources from Más Madrid and PSOE have demanded explanations on the cost and actual use of the property. Eduardo Rubiño called it “Ayuso’s whim” and Sara Ladra warned they will not tolerate any breach of the rules.
Ayuso accused the media of a “campaña de desprestigio” over the publication of the information. She did not disclose the purchase price or who will ultimately occupy the space during the works.
