The National Reconstruction and Economic and Social Development bill advanced in the Senate last week and now faces its third reading in the Chamber of Deputies.
The bill promoted by the government of José Antonio Kast received 26 favorable votes in the upper house. Its measures include a tax reduction and an employment tax credit focused on exports of knowledge-based services.
Communist Party president Lautaro Carmona criticized the project for mainly benefiting big capital and confirmed that the opposition is preparing a filing before the Constitutional Tribunal. Lawyer Jaime Gajardo Falcón will represent the PC in that action.
A Criteria poll published on July 19 showed President Kast’s approval rising to 37 percent, while 35 percent of respondents support the Megarreforma.
