Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Merril Hoge stated that the team is not impressive at any position. He made the comments during an appearance on the Unfinished Business podcast with Trey Wingo.
Hoge described the Steelers as unlikely to reach the playoffs this season. He noted that the roster shows no standout areas despite having talent across the board.
The former player highlighted challenges in the edge-rushing group. T.J. Watt appeared to regress last season while Alex Highsmith has missed significant time due to injuries.
Hoge pointed to potential in several players including Nick Herbig, Derrick Harmon and Troy Fautanu. He also praised new head coach Mike McCarthy for bringing experience that could help develop the roster.
Hoge added that the Cincinnati Bengals remain the strongest team in the AFC North.
