Minister targets waste issues in West Sumatra resolved by 2027

The Ministry of Environment aims to resolve waste management problems in West Sumatra by the end of 2027. A coordination meeting in Padang Pariaman discussed a regional waste handling roadmap.

Environment Minister Mohamad Jumhur Hidayat stated the target during a meeting in Padang Pariaman on 14 July 2026. He emphasized that waste issues must be resolved no later than the end of 2027.

The roadmap covers waste reduction at source, waste bank strengthening, technology optimization, and improved final processing site management. Collaboration models from Jakarta, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara will serve as references.

Padang Pariaman Regent John Kenedy Azis reported daily waste generation of 298.91 tons. He cited shortages of trucks and excavators due to Transfer to Regions cuts plus impacts from floods and landslides.

West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah welcomed the meeting to strengthen central and regional government synergy.
