Monsoon activity intensified across India on July 5, 2026. In Mumbai, several areas recorded over 200 mm of rainfall, with some reaching 300 mm. Runway operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were suspended for an hour from 10:17 a.m. to 11:17 a.m., leading to four IndiGo flight cancellations and 13 diversions.
Two deaths occurred in Mumbai due to tree collapses. An 18-year-old motorcyclist died in Aarey Colony, Goregaon East, and Yunus Kundawala, a senior citizen, was killed when a tree fell on a shop in Kurla West around 12:40 p.m. A 17-year-old boy also drowned in the swollen Kamvari River in Thane.
The India Meteorological Department placed Mumbai and Raigad under red alert. Schools and colleges in Mumbai were declared closed on July 6 due to an orange alert. Odisha put all districts on high alert as a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal, expected to cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha.
Moderate rainfall brought relief to Delhi, with Chhatarpur recording 49 mm. Jharkhand received a yellow alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds from July 6 to 9. Light to moderate showers affected parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat.
