Juanma Moreno failed on Tuesday to secure the votes needed to be invested as president of the Andalusian regional government for a third time. Negotiations with Vox remain open ahead of the second vote on Thursday.
The Andalusian Parliament rejected Juan Manuel Moreno’s investiture with opposing votes from PSOE, Vox, Adelante Andalucía and Por Andalucía. Moreno lacked the required absolute majority and remains in office until the second vote.
Vox spokesperson Manuel Gavira demanded the same governing formula applied in Extremadura, Aragón and Castilla y León, including the “national priority”. Moreno warned that elections would be repeated on 25 October if no agreement is reached.
New opposition leader María Jesús Montero called the session a “fraud” due to the lack of details on the negotiations. Moreno and Montero traded accusations over corruption and pacts with other parties during nearly nine hours of debate.
