11 bit studios has announced The Alters: Last Variable, a new DLC for its survival game The Alters. The expansion is scheduled to release on July 13 for PC and consoles.
The DLC centers on the character Jan Scientist, who stays behind after other versions of the character depart. He assembles a team of specialists described as altered versions of himself to investigate the Oasis phenomenon. The expansion will feature around 20 hours of new content with an entirely new progression loop focused on exploration, scientific research and terraforming. Players can build an underground base, develop technologies and convert barren areas into thriving biomes. According to the developer, the team must master new terraforming mechanics to reshape the planet's surface while managing the consequences of their decisions. The announcement includes a 70-second trailer. The base game The Alters previously faced criticism last year after AI prompts were found in subtitles and text without disclosure on its Steam page.
