North Carolina father charged with abusing toddler

A 44-year-old man in Wake County faces multiple charges after authorities say he caused serious injuries to his 2-year-old child on June 2. The child suffered a brain bleed and spinal fractures requiring emergency surgery.

Kiran Pasunuri was arrested Thursday by officers from the Garner Police Department. He is accused of two counts each of intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

Court records state that Pasunuri allegedly attacked the child and delayed seeking medical help despite immediately apparent injuries. The toddler required surgery to remove part of the skull and also suffered compression fractures of the vertebrae.

Pasunuri is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. A judge has ordered him to have no contact with the child. He is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on Monday.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the child's current health status has not been disclosed.
