North Carolina mother charged after allegedly abusing children with hot wax

A 40-year-old woman in Browns Summit faces multiple charges after neighbors reported her allegedly pouring hot wax on her three young children and choking them.

Sabrina Lauren Spruill was arrested Tuesday at her home in the 300 block of Caseybrook Court. Deputies responded after neighbors heard the children, ages 8, 7 and 4, screaming and entered the residence.

Spruill faces three counts each of child abuse, assault on a child under 12, strangulation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, plus one count of communicating threats. She is held on a $75,500 bond with a court date set for July 30.

Deputies described the home as extremely filthy with no accessible food, no bedding and signs of prior abuse on the children. The 4-year-old told officers his mother hits them. Spruill has an open Child Protective Services case and a reported history of mental health issues.
