Ohio mother sentenced to prison for child abuse

A 29-year-old Ohio woman was sentenced to two years in prison for binding her children's hands and pushing them down stairs.

Daisha Phillips pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. The abuse occurred on or about August 18, 2025, at her home in the Winton Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati.

Phillips bound the wrists of her then 4-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter with rope before pushing each down a flight of stairs. She also struck her daughter numerous times with a belt, causing injuries that required an overnight hospital stay.

Judge Patrick Dinkelacker imposed the two-year sentence on June 22 after noting the lasting harm to the children. Phillips told investigators the actions were part of her normal discipline.
