Pennsylvania father charged after leaving children in hot car

A 32-year-old man in Springdale, Pennsylvania, faces multiple felony charges after police say he left his two young children in a locked car while he received a massage.

Jerry Rempuszewski was charged with two counts each of leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle, endangering the welfare of children, and recklessly endangering another person.

Officers responded Tuesday to the area near Glen's Custard after finding his 5-year-old stepson and 6-month-old daughter inside a locked Dodge Dart. The children showed signs of heat exposure, with the infant unresponsive but breathing, and the car's internal temperature estimated at around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Police said Rempuszewski had entered Golden Wellness Bodywork Massage across the street without an appointment about 36 minutes earlier for a 30-minute session. He told officers he was getting the children ice cream as he approached the scene.

The children received hospital treatment. Their mother was contacted at work. Rempuszewski posted 10 percent of his $2,500 bond and was released from Allegheny County Jail, with his next court date set for June 24.
