Orana BESS battery facility reaches commercial operation

A new $415 million Tesla Megapack energy storage facility in Australia has begun commercial operations.

The Orana BESS project in New South Wales provides 415 megawatts of capacity and up to four hours of energy storage, equivalent to 1.66 gigawatt-hours.

The facility is designed to support grid reliability and help integrate more renewable energy into the state's electricity system.

“The Orana BESS is set to play a major role in supporting firming capacity and grid reliability, allowing more renewable energy to be integrated into the NSW electricity system,” a project statement said.
