Philips sees AI, flexible financing driving wider access to advanced healthcare in Egypt: Makhlouf

Philips is advancing AI-powered healthcare technologies and flexible financing options in Egypt to support the country's healthcare goals. General Manager Ahmad Makhlouf outlined these efforts in an interview focused on diagnostic tools and system resilience.

Philips is showcasing several new systems at Africa Health ExCon to aid Egypt's Vision 2030 and Universal Health Insurance strategy. These include the Rembra CT scanner that produces 106 images per second with AI workflows, the SmartSpeed Precise MR technology that speeds scans up to three times faster, and the portable Flash Ultrasound System 5100 POC.

The company is also exploring local refurbishment facilities and AI-enabled predictive maintenance to build Egyptian expertise and reduce equipment downtime. Makhlouf noted that these steps help shift from emergency repairs to planned interventions.

Through Philips Capital, hospitals can access leasing models with payments tied to usage or deployment phases. Circular Edition refurbished systems cost about 25 percent less than new ones while reusing 79 percent of materials on average.

Makhlouf said Egypt remains a key market and that partnerships with public and private providers aim to deliver sustainable solutions aligned with local needs over the next three years.
