Poland has decided to purchase three submarines from Swedish Saab to bolster Baltic Sea security. The deal, worth around 26 billion kronor, forms part of Poland's new submarine program. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson welcomes the cooperation as validation of Sweden's defense industry's strength.
Cooperation between Poland and Sweden in the Baltic Sea is strengthening through a new submarine agreement. Poland announced on November 26, 2025, that the country will purchase three A26-model submarines from Saab. According to Reuters, the delivery will enhance security in the Baltic Sea region.
The deal is worth approximately 26 billion kronor and is part of Poland's submarine program. Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed hope for a final agreement by the second quarter of 2026 at the latest. "Sweden presented the best offer in terms of all criteria, delivery time, and operational capability, especially in the Baltic Sea," he said at a press conference.
Poland had received offers from Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and South Korea but selected Sweden. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) commented on X: "Poland and Sweden share a common view on the challenges to European security." He added: "It is a strength not only for our countries' cooperation but for all of Sweden as a defense industry nation. It is proof that Swedish defense industry stands strong."
Kristersson further wrote: "In an uncertain time for our entire region, we are now strengthening our part of the world together."
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson assesses that the deal will not delay the delivery of submarines to the Swedish armed forces. "It should be possible to handle parallel orders," he said.
