Rockstar launches mod marketplace for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games has introduced the Cfx Marketplace, a digital storefront allowing select creators to sell mods for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. The platform, aimed primarily at server owners but accessible to players, features both free and paid content amid the company's historically strict stance on modding. This launch follows Rockstar's acquisition of Cfx.re in 2023.

Rockstar Games, through its subsidiary Cfx.re, announced the Cfx Marketplace on January 12, 2026. Described as “a curated digital storefront where talented FiveM/RedM creators can share and sell their work,” the platform supports mods for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, including purchasable props, scripts, maps, and more. While targeted at GTA V and RDR2 server owners using FiveM and RedM, the official post states “there’s something for every server and every player.”

The marketplace includes free downloads alongside paid options, such as a $23.99 recurring monthly fee for certain mods and bundles costing up to $467.99. At launch, Cfx has partnered with a “select group” of modders, though details on revenue sharing with Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive remain undisclosed.

This development contrasts with Rockstar's past approach to modding. Since a 2019 user agreement change, the company has aggressively pursued DMCA takedowns against GTA-related mods, including projects like the Liberty City Preservation Project, a Vice City web port, and Project Vice in 2025 alone. In 2015, Rockstar banned accounts linked to the FiveM project, calling it “an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that contains code designed to facilitate piracy.” However, growing popularity led to a 2022 policy exception for FiveM and RedM roleplay servers, followed by Cfx.re's official integration into Rockstar in 2023.

Commenters on Cfx's announcement suggest the marketplace could shield mods from takedowns, especially those using third-party assets, which have faced bans in the past. The timing raises questions about preparations for Grand Theft Auto VI mod support.
