Ronnie Schell, the character actor who played Pvt. Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle: USMC, died at the age of 94.
Schell died Friday at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. His family confirmed the news, and the official cause of death was natural causes.
Schell portrayed Duke, the best friend of the show's title character, across 92 episodes of the CBS sitcom. Gomer Pyle: USMC was a spin-off of The Andy Griffith Show.
He left the series in its fourth season to star in his own CBS sitcom, Good Morning World, alongside Goldie Hawn. After its cancellation, he returned for the show's fifth and final season.
Schell's other television credits include The Patty Duke Show, Sanford & Son, and Mork & Mindy. His film work includes Gus and The Shaggy D.A.
