Roy Suryo thanks police after not being detained

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Roy Suryo appeared relieved after a nine-hour examination as a suspect in the case alleging President Joko Widodo's fake diploma. He and two other suspects were not detained by Polda Metro Jaya. Roy expressed thanks to the police and his supporters.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Roy Suryo, digital forensics expert Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and doctor Tifauziah Tyassuma alias Dr. Tifa underwent their first examination as suspects at the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of Polda Metro Jaya, South Jakarta. The questioning lasted nine hours and 20 minutes, from 10:30 WIB to 18:50 WIB, during which the three answered hundreds of investigators' questions. According to the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, the number of questions for Rismon Sianipar was 157, for Roy Suryo 134, and for Dr. Tifa 86.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the three suspects were allowed to return to their respective homes. "We allow the three suspects to return to their respective homes," he told reporters.

After leaving the Ditreskrimum building, Roy Suryo smiled relievedly and gave a surprising statement. "Thank you to Polda Metro Jaya. Thank you to everyone who accompanied us tonight. Especially the very valuable friends. Thank you also to the extraordinary lawyers. The mothers, aunts, and fathers, everyone. Once again, thank you," he said.

The case stemmed from a lawsuit by Roy Suryo and others questioning the authenticity of President Joko Widodo's bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Gadjah Mada. Jokowi reported it to Polda Metro Jaya on April 30, 2025, and the case was elevated to investigation after elements of criminal defamation and name tarnishing were found. There are eight suspects in two clusters: the first cluster includes Eggi Sudjana, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, M. Rizal Fadillah, Rustam Effendi, and Damai Hari Lubis; the second cluster consists of Roy Suryo, Dr. Tifa, and Rismon Sianipar. Jokowi has been examined twice, with his high school and S1 diplomas seized for forensic testing.
