The São Paulo government has extended until February 25 the public consultation on the water security project for the Piracicaba, Capivari, and Jundiaí rivers basin (PCJ). The initiative aims to enhance water supply in 21 municipalities and mitigate scarcity risks during dry periods.
The São Paulo government, under Tarcísio de Freitas's administration, has extended the public consultation for the PCJ water security project until February 25. Developed by the Secretariat of Partnerships and Investments (SPI), the program aims to improve water utilization, ensuring more consistent supply, particularly during dry spells.
Estimated at R$ 311 million, the works will benefit 21 cities in the region: Americana, Amparo, Artur Nogueira, Atibaia, Bom Jesus dos Perdões, Campinas, Cosmópolis, Holambra, Hortolândia, Itatiba, Jaguariúna, Limeira, Louveira, Monte Mor, Nova Odessa, Paulínia, Pedreira, Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, Sumaré, Valinhos, and Vinhedo. The public can submit suggestions via email to segurancahidricasarpcj@cpp.sp.gov.br, which will be reviewed by government technical teams.
This step addresses ongoing concerns over water crises in the state, worsened by climate change. The project is a key effort to bolster water infrastructure in the vital PCJ basin, serving millions of residents.
