Conagua detailed that the effects of the second winter storm and cold front 27 will be felt from Saturday until Monday, January 12, bringing frigid conditions to much of Mexico. In mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango, temperatures could fall between -10 and -5 degrees Celsius. Frosts from -5 to 0 degrees are forecast in early mornings across mountainous regions in Baja California, Sonora, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Estado de México, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.
There is a chance of snow or sleet in the mountains of Baja California, Sonora, and Chihuahua, along with showers and locally heavy rains in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, and Chihuahua. Isolated rains are expected in Michoacán and Chiapas, while temperatures in mountainous areas of Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Mexico City, and Morelos will range from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius.
This event is part of the cold front season, which, according to the National Meteorological Service, will span from September 2025 to May 2026, with at least 48 occurrences in total. For 2026, six fronts are anticipated in January, five in February, six in March, five in April, and three in May. Conagua advised preparing for these extreme conditions, recalling previous snowfalls like the one in December at Cofre de Perote, Veracruz.
