Sony and Bungie have settled a $200 million wrongful dismissal lawsuit with former Marathon director Christopher Barrett. The agreement ends a legal dispute that began after Barrett's departure from the studio in 2024. Both sides released a joint statement confirming the resolution.
Barrett filed the suit last year, alleging that Bungie and its parent company Sony had falsely accused him of sexual misconduct to damage his reputation and avoid paying nearly $50 million owed under his contract. He described the internal investigation as a sham and maintained a clean 25-year record at Bungie.
The companies had countered with claims of predatory behaviour uncovered during their probe. Barrett's case was initially dismissed in Delaware but refiled in Superior Court earlier this year.
In a July 8 post, Barrett said he was satisfied with the outcome and grateful for support. The joint statement noted his contributions to Bungie's games and confirmed his name has been added to the Marathon credits as original game director. No other settlement terms were disclosed.
