Two Swedish scooping planes have landed in the Bordeaux area to assist with firefighting in France. The planes were sent as part of the EU's rescEU cooperation.
Two scooping planes left Sweden on Saturday morning and landed at 19:00 in the Bordeaux area. They are part of an extra safety net of EU common resources called rescEU.
Christina Jarnlid, press spokesperson at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, confirmed that the planes will likely not start work until Sunday morning. Two more planes will be sent to France next week.
Several fires are raging in southern Europe, mainly in France and Spain. Nearly 200,000 people have been evacuated in the affected areas. MCF highlighted the strength of EU cooperation in using resources efficiently.
