Tesla expands blind spot warning feature worldwide

Tesla has rolled out its Blind Spot Warning While Parked feature to more vehicle models through software update 2026.20.6. The update makes the safety tool available globally to help prevent dooring incidents involving cyclists and other road users.

The feature activates when an approaching object is detected in a vehicle's blind spot. It sounds a chime and temporarily prevents the door from opening on the first button press.

Tesla first introduced the system in 2024 on the Model 3 Highland. It later reached the Cybertruck in spring 2026 before the current expansion to the new Model Y and 2021 or newer Model S and Model X vehicles.

Release notes explain that drivers can override the warning by pressing the button a second time after a short delay. The update aims to reduce injuries from dooring, which accounts for a notable share of urban cycling crashes.
