Tokyo Pokémon store requires quiz to fight scalpers

A BicCamera store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, now requires customers to pass a 15-question Pokémon quiz before purchasing trading card game products. The policy targets scalpers, who have been failing the test according to reports. Genuine fans can buy limited stock after succeeding.

BicCamera Ikebukuro, which sells electronics, toys and Pokémon cards, introduced the quiz to ensure products reach true collectors. Ryo Saeba reported on X on April 27 that scalpers cannot pass the basic questions about the Pokémon universe. Customers succeeding receive one 30-pack box of the popular Ninja Spinner set, launched in March and featuring Mega Greninja ex heavily. The store applies the measure amid ongoing shortages of Pokémon TCG products. Even after passing, staff slash the plastic wrap on booster boxes to hinder resale. Saeba noted that photographing the quiz sheet prompts the store to halt sales entirely. This approach highlights persistent supply issues, with the next set, Chaos Rising, due May 22.
