Tom Holland initially believed director Christopher Nolan disliked his work during the first day of filming The Odyssey. The actor later learned that frequent cuts stemmed from technical limits of IMAX cameras rather than his performance.
Holland, who plays Telemachus in the film, described the experience in comments to Fandango. He recalled working alongside Jon Bernthal and wondering why Nolan kept stopping the scene.
“I thought I was totally shitting the bed in this scene,” Holland said. Stunt coordinator George Cottle later explained that the IMAX cameras could only run for three minutes at a time.
The Odyssey, an adaptation of the ancient epic, stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and is scheduled to reach theaters on July 17. Holland has since described the overall production as the best experience of his career.
Nolan’s project marks the first feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras.
