Train stranded for hours on Dresden-Hannover route

Around 200 passengers on the IC 2446 had to endure over three hours in a stationary train on the Dresden-Hannover route on Saturday evening. The train stopped near Helmstedt due to a technical defect. Passengers were only able to transfer to replacement trains and buses late in the evening.

On Saturday evening around 8:30 PM, the InterCity 2446 came to a halt on the route from Dresden to Hannover due to a technical defect, as a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman told the German Press Agency. The train stopped near Helmstedt, and around 200 passengers had to wait for just over three hours.

Railway staff initially tried to fix the issue on site. In the meantime, the power in the train failed, leaving passengers in the dark temporarily, according to a fellow traveler. Around 11:40 PM, passengers were finally able to transfer to a replacement train and buses.

Deutsche Bahn apologized for the inconvenience and thanked passengers for their patience. Such technical failures are not uncommon for Deutsche Bahn, but they cause significant delays in rail traffic.
