On February 15, 2026, during the African Union Summit 2026, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster collaboration on women's and adolescents' health innovations, data-driven policymaking, and sustainable investment across Africa. The pact was executed by UNFPA Executive Director Ms. Diene Keita and Africa CDC Director-General Dr. Jean Kaseya.
This agreement reinforces a commitment to hasten progress toward universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), foster demographic resilience, and develop robust, equitable health systems via innovation and strategic alliances. It creates a structure for combined efforts to expand innovations and improve policy alignment in adolescent, maternal, and reproductive health, emphasizing better access to vital services and technologies, local production of goods, and refined pooled procurement for sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health (SRMNAH) products.
The partnership aims to enhance health system capabilities throughout Africa by focusing on these targeted areas, without introducing new elements beyond the outlined framework.
