Western Cape expected to see improved weather after cold front

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasts clearing conditions in parts of the Western Cape by Sunday morning after a cold front brought rain and strong winds on Saturday. A yellow level 2 warning persists for damaging coastal winds, though winds should ease. Another cold front is due on Monday.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) reports that a cold front swept across the south-western parts of the Western Cape on Saturday, delivering showers, rain, and strong winds. Forecaster Mathebula Langutelani stated that conditions are expected to clear by Sunday morning.

A yellow level 2 warning remains active for damaging coastal winds between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas. SAWS warns of possible localised disruptions to beachfront activities, but winds are anticipated to ease soon.

Langutelani noted another cold front approaching. “On Monday early morning, we’re expecting a cold front to start making landfall over the western parts of the Western Cape. So, we’re expecting some cloudy conditions and also some showers and rain on Monday along the west and southwest coast, then spreading along the south coast during the day.”

The update comes amid ongoing weather monitoring in the province, with gale force winds in Cape Town expected to subside by Tuesday.
