Polestar has announced a station wagon variant of its Polestar 4 electric SUV, alongside plans for two other new models over the next two years. The Swedish company, owned by Geely, aims to expand its market share after selling a record 61,000 electric vehicles in 2025. CEO Michael Lohscheller highlighted the practical benefits of the new design and the company's focus on key EV segments.
Polestar, the Geely-owned Swedish automaker, is preparing to introduce three new electric vehicle models within the next two years to boost its presence in the growing EV market. Central to these announcements is a station wagon, or shooting brake, version of the Polestar 4, which draws on the company's heritage with Volvo estates.
The Polestar 4 will now offer two body styles: the existing SUV and a new four-door wagon that blends estate space with SUV versatility. "It's all the good things from the current car, but it's a bit more practical," said CEO Michael Lohscheller. This variant is scheduled for release later this year and will be manufactured in Busan, South Korea, to sidestep US tariffs on vehicles produced in China.
In addition, Polestar plans an updated Polestar 2 aimed at younger buyers, featuring a slightly longer body for increased passenger room. This model will be built in China and is not expected to reach the US market. The third addition, the Polestar 7, is a compact SUV in the same lineup as Volvo's EX60, targeting Europe's expanding compact SUV sector. It will be produced in Europe, with Lohscheller noting, "We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point."
These launches support Polestar's ambition to capture 60 percent of global EV sales by focusing on high-profit areas in the battery electric vehicle segment. After exiting the competitive Chinese market, Europe represents 78 percent of its sales, with the US accounting for most of the remainder. Lohscheller emphasized the US potential, stating, "People forget that the U.S. is a big EV market, especially on the east and west coasts. And it will stay a big market." Currently, Polestar sells the Polestar 3 and 4 SUVs in the US.
