Derecktor Shipyards has launched Derecktor One, a service aimed at streamlining superyacht refits by coordinating contractors and providing all-inclusive pricing. This initiative addresses common challenges like scheduling overlaps and cost overruns in the industry. The service operates from yards in Fort Pierce and Dania Beach, Florida.
The superyacht refit industry faces numerous hurdles, including coordinating multiple contractors for tasks such as metalwork and painting, managing overlapping schedules, and handling delays that increase costs. Captains and owners often prefer specific specialists, but integrating them with shipyard tradespeople can complicate projects. Additionally, captains must continue their regular duties even while the yacht is in the yard.
To tackle these issues, Derecktor Shipyards has created Derecktor One. This service unites all contractor coordination, including yacht-requested specialists, and delivers a single price and bill. A dedicated project manager oversees scheduling, change orders, communications among contractors, and vets any preferred specialists brought in by owners or captains.
Derecktor One offers refits and major services on an all-inclusive basis where possible. Quotes include dockage, fees, taxes, project management, and work by preferred contractors. Pricing depends on a confirmed outline of the desired work and an inspection of the megayacht's condition, with fixed pricing applied to suitable tasks.
The service leverages Derecktor's two Florida facilities. The Fort Pierce yard, which holds Foreign Trade Zone status, specializes in megayachts over 200 feet (61 meters) and features a lift for vessels up to 1,500 tons. The Dania Beach yard handles yachts up to 197 feet (60 meters) with a 900-ton mobile hoist on site.
These yards maintain relationships with various specialists, aiming to create smoother refit processes with clearer budgets for clients.
