An Italian restaurant brand has announced plans to open its second UK pizzeria in Shrewsbury. The new Mamma Margherita outlet will occupy a vacant property on Bellstone, aiming for a launch in early 2026. The development includes requests for outdoor seating and signage approvals from local authorities.
Shrewsbury's town centre is set to welcome a new Italian dining option with the planned opening of Mamma Margherita, the second branch of the pizzeria and restaurant brand in the UK. The first location operates in Coventry, and this expansion targets the former premises of the Wrekin Housing Trust on Bellstone, adjacent to The Loopy Shrewsbury. The property has stood empty since the trust relocated in 2023.
Signs promoting the new venture have already appeared at the site. A spokesperson for Cooper Green Pooks, the agency handling the letting, confirmed that the restaurant targets the first quarter of 2026 for its opening. To proceed, the business has submitted plans to Shropshire Council for modest signage, described as sympathetic to the character of the Shrewsbury Conservation Area.
Additionally, Mamma Margherita has applied for a pavement licence to install outdoor furniture, proposing up to four tables and 16 chairs. This setup would operate from 11am to 11pm daily, subject to a current consultation by the local authority. These steps reflect efforts to integrate the new eatery into the area's historic environment while enhancing pedestrian-friendly amenities.
