L'administration Marcos va étudier les implications de la campagne américaine contre la Cour pénale internationale. La CPI doit entamer cette année le procès de l'ancien président Rodrigo Duterte pour crimes contre l'humanité.

Le secrétaire d'État américain Marco Rubio a dévoilé lundi dernier une campagne visant à neutraliser la capacité de la CPI à opérer ou à cibler des militaires ou des responsables américains. Les Philippines ont cessé d'être membres de la CPI en 2019 après s'être retirées du Statut de Rome.

La porte-parole du palais, Claire Castro, a déclaré que l'effet sur l'application des lois philippines était en cours d'examen. Elle a précisé que les autorités attendraient la déclaration du président Marcos sur un éventuel soutien à la position américaine.

Duterte a été arrêté le 11 mars 2025 en vertu d'un mandat de la CPI et est détenu à La Haye. Son procès doit débuter en novembre. L'administration l'a livré l'année dernière conformément aux engagements pris auprès d'Interpol.
