Al-Sisi reviews airport expansion plans and private sector participation

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reviewed plans on Tuesday to upgrade the country's airports and expand private sector involvement in their management. He met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny to discuss modernizing infrastructure and operational systems in line with international standards.

The meeting focused on developments in the Terminal 4 project at Cairo International Airport, aimed at expanding capacity for passengers and aircraft. Officials also reviewed upgrade plans for Luxor International Airport, Borg El Arab International Airport in Alexandria, and El Alamein International Airport. Further discussions included building a new terminal at Capital International Airport and establishing new international airports in Saint Catherine and Arish.

The session addressed plans to offer the management and operations of Egyptian airports to private investors, seeking to attract local and foreign investments in the aviation sector. It also covered the financial performance of EgyptAir Holding Company and the Egyptian Airports and Air Navigation Holding Company for the 2024–2025 fiscal year.

On digital transformation, the talks examined efforts to introduce electronic passport gates at Cairo International Airport to streamline travel procedures. The status of EgyptAir's fleet was reviewed, along with the impact of ongoing regional tensions on aviation operations and flight schedules.

President Al-Sisi emphasized that developing the national carrier remains a priority, calling for a comprehensive plan to expand the fleet, improve operational efficiency, enhance passenger services, adhere to environmental standards, and boost profitability.
